The first time my daughter, Cindy, saw Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends she fell in love with all of the characters, but especially Wilt. We bought her every Foster's toy we could find on Cartoon Network's web page. They had a plush Bloo available, but the only Wilt was a 6" plastic figure. Not big enough for Cindy's imagination!

Sooo...I looked at lots of pictures of Wilt online, watched his movements on the VCR, and sketched up some patterns. Then I bought a five yards of red flannel, white vinyl, and looked everywhere for some tube socks. I was surprised that the socks were so hard to find, I thought the old striped tube socks I used to wear as a kid would always be around. Finally I found some similar to Wilt's on Skatersocks.com. When Ivan from Skatersocks found out what they were for, he threw in Wilt's wristband gratis, pro bono, free!

After a few days of sewing on the prowl, Wilt was finished! He's 6'7" tall with wire armature, polyester fiberfill, and a rose quartz heart. It was really fun trying to copy the sketchy cartoon style in doll form.

I couldn't wait for Cindy's 10th birthday so I gave her Wilt a few weeks early. After getting over her shock of finding Wilt in bed with Mom when she came in for her morning hug, she spent the morning before school posing Wilt and drawing pictures of him with various members of the family.

I can see now that I didn't make his face full enough, and his wonky eye is on the wrong side, but Cindy doesn't care. She loves having her very own Imaginary Friend.
